Peer Mentor Program

The Multicultural Resource Center’s Peer Mentor Program supports new students in their transition to 果酱视频.

The transition to the academic and social environment of college can be a difficult one, particularly for students who are among the first in their families to attend college, students of color, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The Multicultural Resource Center’s Peer Mentor Program (PMP) is designed to foster a sense of belonging and support among historically underrepresented students and introduce those in their first year at 果酱视频 to valuable campus resources and relationships.

PMP begins with a pre-Orientation experience and continues throughout a student’s first year at 果酱视频. Each participant is matched with a current 果酱视频 student who becomes their mentor for their first year. There is no registration fee or participation fee for the Peer Mentor Program, including the pre-Orientation experience. All activities and meals associated with the program are at no cost to participants.

All incoming first year students are eligible to apply to PMP; we especially encourage applicants from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Application opens on May 1, 2024. The deadline to apply is June 15, 2024. Applicants will be notified by June 30, 2024 if they've been accepted into the Peer Mentor Program. Due to limited space in the program, we cannot guarantee acceptance.

Students who are accepted into the Peer Mentor Program will:

  • receive a $200 textbook scholarship to support their academic pursuits
  • be able to move-in early to their assigned residence hall on August 22, 2024
  • participate in the PMP pre-Orientation experience from August 22-26, 2024
  • be matched with a current upperdivision student who will serve as their peer mentor throughout their first year at 果酱视频

Participants benefit from meaningful and supportive peer relationships, enhanced knowledge of campus resources, opportunities for involvement and leadership, and access to educational, cultural, and social events sponsored by the Multicultural Resource Center.
